  1. Background

The International Potato Center (CIP) seeks a qualified candidate to assist the National Policies and Strategies Initiative (NPS) Kenya team in the coordination of policy engagement and learning events, content creation, and messaging under the supervision of the Senior Program Coordinator.

  1. Objective

This consultancy will support the work of the NPS team in Kenya in the planning and coordination of policy engagement events and in the drafting of knowledge products such as blogs, and social media content. He/she will also work closely with the regional communication specialist to support ongoing communication efforts within the NPS initiative and/or the sweet potato SSA program at CIP. The consultant will follow through on communication-related administrative tasks geared toward content generation and dissemination with colleagues and partners.

Specific tasks will include:

  • Helping to organize NPS partner engagement events.
  • Writing blogs and content creation for NPS work in Kenya.
  • Photography to capture and promote ongoing work as well as during project meetings.
  • Preparing social media posts for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in line with CIP/CGIAR communication and Knowledge management policies including scheduling social media posts by use of Buffer and other social media scheduling tools.
  • Assist in developing metadata, uploading and updating NPS communication and training materials on to various platforms including the CIP website and other partner platforms.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Coordinator and Communications Specialist

  • Ongoing support on social media, media, content creation
  • Photography and Videography
  • Organizing partner engagement events in Kenya
  • At least two NPS blogs drafted and published.
  1. Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, Media Studies; Information Science, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related area.
  • At least 2 years of experience.
  • Specialty in Development Communications.
  • High level of computer literacy, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, MS Office, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience in writing an article in a newsroom setting is an asset.
  • Highly effective use of social media, networking, and securing information and expertise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals through email and in person.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills (including an excellent command in English both oral and written).
  • Highly proactive and consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude.
  • Good report writing and communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in English (both spoken and written).
  1. Time frame
  • Consultancy contract will be for 90 days.

Conditions: This is a national consultancy position limited to Kenya nationals and permits residents only.
